Serial Line Interface Modules

Serial Line Interface Modules are electrical interfaces on a module. When used with the Intellicon-Flex8 or DFlex communications adapters, Serial Line Interface Modules allow multiple serial devices with different interfaces to be connected simultaneously to an IBM PC, AT or compatible. Serial Line Interface Modules offer a highly flexible solution for a wide range of I/O requirements.

RS-232 Serial Line Interface Module

  • fits into an available SLIM socket on an Intellicon-Flex8 or DFlex-2/-4/-8.
  • up to four modules of the same and/or different line interface may be installed.
  • each SLIM provides an asynchronous RS-232 interface over two ports.
  • modules can be installed by the user.
  • maximum baud rate 38.4 Kbps ( Intellicon-Flex8 ),115.2 Kbps ( DFlex-2/-4/-8 ) and 460.8 Kbps ( DFlex/FAST-2/-4 ). . .
  • the main benefit of a RS-232 interface is that it allows the user to incorporate a wide range of RS-232 devices into an application.

RS-485/422 Serial Line Interface Module

  • fits into an available SLIM socket on an Intellicon-Flex8 or DFlex-2/-4/-8.
  • up to four modules of the same and/or different line interface may be installed.
  • each SLIM provides a RS-485/422 interface over two ports.
  • modules can be installed by the user.
  • capable of handling long-distance communications up to 5000 feet at 38.4 Kbps.
  • the differential drive features of RS-485/422 provide high speed and virtually error-free transmission.
  • provides flexibility of using several devices in a multidrop bus.
  • maximum baud rate 38.4 Kbps ( Intellicon-Flex8 ), 115.2 Kbps ( DFlex-2/-4/-8 ) and 460.8 Kbps ( DFlex/FAST-2/-4 ). .
  • the main benefit of a RS-485/422 interface is that it offers high speed, long distance and flexible networking capabilities to an application. This interface is becoming increasingly popular in industrial applications.

20mA Current Loop Serial Line Interface Module

  • fits into an available SLIM socket on an Intellicon-Flex8 or DFlex-2/-4/-8.
  • up to four modules of the same and/or different line interface may be installed.
  • each SLIM provides a 20 mA current loop interface at 24 VDC maximum over two ports.
  • modules can be installed by the user.
  • common mode rejection provided by optical isolators in both receive and transmit loops.
  • will operate as an active loop interface ( providing loop current ) or a passive loop interface ( attached device providing current ).
  • provides flexibility of using several devices in a multidrop loop.
  • maximum baud rate 38.4 Kbps ( Intellicon-Flex8 ) and 115.2 Kbps ( DFlex-2/-4/-8 ).
  • the main benefit of a 20mA current loop interface is that it provides better noise immunity, long distance and flexible networking capabilities to an application.

RS-423 Current Loop Serial Line Interface Module

  • fits into an available SLIM socket on an Intellicon-Flex8 or DFlex-2/-4/-8.
  • up to four modules of the same and/or different line interface may be installed.
  • each SLIM provides a RS-423 interface over two ports.
  • modules can be installed by the user.
  • maximum baud rate 38.4 Kbps ( Intellicon-Flex8 ) and 115.2 Kbps ( DFlex-2/-4/-8 ).
