NT960/PCI Serial Adapters
|
Today's computer applications are becoming more complex and rigorous, requiring
flexible system hardware and peripherals. The NT960/PCI, a RISC based intelligent
multi-port I/O subsystem, meets this challenge by offering you one of the most flexible
solutions for your serial I/O requirements . For robust performance and flexibility, the
NT960/PCI is built around a 33 MHz Intel 80960 RISC processor, with 1 MB of
RAM. These features
substantially reduce serial I/O bottle-necks on the host CPU, resulting in
improved efficiency for the total system.
The NT960/PCI can be purchased as a PCI Host Adaptor replacement for an
existing Intellicon-NT960 ISA bus system, or as part of a new Serial I/O Subsystem.
Benefits
Robust Communications
Cirrus Logic CD1400 communication controllers, with 12 byte RX and 12 byte
TX FIFO buffers on every port, offer data
communications up to 115.2 Kbps.
Intelligent Communications Processor
The user can software select options such as RS-485 line
control processed on the NT960/PCI Host Adapter.
This improves the overall performance of the host system.
Expandability
For the most demanding multi-user/multi-channel applications, the NT960/PCI Host
Adapter and
ACM/16,
ACM/Flex-16,
ACM/16 RJ
(RJ-45 connectors) external modules offer a modular approach to port
expansion. One NT960/PCI Host Adapter can handle up to 128 ports.
Hardware Flexibility
For applications requiring more flexibility than what other multi-port serial products
provide, the NT960/PCI subsystem offers the following hardware features:
Intellicon-NT960 ISA Replacement
The NT960/PCI host adapter is fully compatible with
all ACM/16 models currently using the ISA bus Intellicon-NT960 host adapter.
The NT960/PCI provides a cost effective upgrade to the High Performance PCI
bus, with out having purchase all new hardware. To upgrade to the NT960/PCI
you will require one NT960/PCI host adapter, one new high speed cable and the
new provided driver software.
|
The NT960/PCI features the following.....
-
Fully plug and play no jumpers or dip switches for resource
configuration.
- 8, 16 and 32 bit data transfers.
- supports both polled and interrupt modes.
- supports PCI bus mastering DMA transfers.
-
the highly modular and lightweight design of the ACM/16, ACM/Flex-16, ACM/16RJ
external modules allow you to easily integrate it into your application.
-
the ACM/Flex-16 features Serial Line Interface Modules ( SLIM's ) that provide
different electrical interfaces such as RS-232, RS485/422 and 20mA current loop (passive)
on the same ACM/Flex-16 module. As hardware requirements change within the application,
you may field-upgrade the ACM/Flex-16 with the appropriate SLIM. Serial Line Interface
Modules offer a highly flexible solution for a wide range of I/O requirements.

Software Compatibility
The NT960/PCI will come with device drivers for most popular operating systems
such as SCO UNIX, QNX 4.2X, Linux ( coming soon) and
Windows 2000/XP. All device drivers are developed and maintained by our team of experienced
software engineers. Current support includes QNX4.2X.
Enhanced Features
-
Adjustable FIFO buffer thresholds and timeouts allow you to customise the NT960
performance to better meet your communication requirements.
-
Full support for 1/2 duplex ( 2 wire ) and full duplex ( 4 wire ) RS-485
communications.
-
Dynamic buffer allocation. The remaining amount of RAM is divided up
amongst the installed ports, less ports means a
larger buffer will be allocated to the ports. More ports means the buffers
will be smaller. This is determined automatically by the NT960/PCI firmware.
Each port has it's own unique TX and RX buffers. Buffer sizes range from 2k to
16k per port.
Easy to Use
The NT960/PCI subsystem comes with software device drivers, and a comprehensive
installation manual. Software installation is customised to use the standard interface
provided with the operating system. Fully Plug and Play means there are
NO jumpers and DIP switches to select, all the resources required by the
board are determined by the computer BIOS or the Operating System. Other
features of the NT960/PCI include automatic firmware download. Firmware is no
longer downloaded ( using ntload ) into FLASH (TM ) memory, it is downloaded
at driver start-up time into static RAM, every time the driver starts. This
removes the complicated installation step of loading the firmware into FLASH
memory as was done on the ISA Intelicon-NT960 and makes software upgrades
easier.
Warranty and Service
Every Connect Tech product is built and tested to meet high standards of quality and
reliability. The NT960/PCI subsystem is covered with a lifetime warranty.
