INTERFACE CONVERTER
The Hedin Tex asynchronous interface converters M-4/R-4 guarantee an error free data transmission up to a distance of 1,2 kilometres using the RS232/ V.24-interface. M-4 is the table top version with its own power supply. R-4 is the corresponding converter in form of a plug-in card for the 19" rack RV-1 with European standard size. Where several converters are needed, R-4 is used to save space and to obtain a general overview. It is fully compatible to M-4. M-4/R-4 permits rates of up to 100,000 bps with full duplex, half duplex or simplex. The data transmission is provided by the V.11, RS-422, RS485-interface. This technique makes it possible to connect up to 32 M-4/R-4 to the same local data network line. The interface 1 is designed according to the standard specifications EIA RS232-C and CCITT V.24/ V.28. The signal status is shown by four LEDís (POWER, RD, TD and RTS) on the front panel. Transmission of data is full duplex with two twisted pairs of cable, half duplex or simplex with one twisted pair. Using one pair of cables the transmission is directed through the V.24/RS232-C by the signal RTS (150) or the V.24 data. The converters M-4 and R-4 are codetransparent which means they are completely independent from data structure and transmission protocols. M-4/R-4 offer high protection from lightning and excess voltage. Not only the converter is protected but also the connected expensive computer equipment. M-4 and R-4 fulfil the highest expectations of operational reliability, function and performance. Because of the simple handling the modems are easy to install and to use. Maximum transfer distance 1,200 metres at 0 - 100,000 bps. Use pair twisted, unscreened cables. The transfer characteristics deteriorate as the capacitance increases and the cable crosssection is reduced. Use screened cables in heavy interference environment but consider that higher capacitances reduce the transmission distance.
