| The LT-2 line amplifier extends a RS485/RS422
connection by a further 1200 metres or carries out a 2-
wire/4-wire conversion. In case of a 4-wire/2-wire
or 2-/4-wire conversion at any interface, the LT-2
detects whether data are present and switches the
transmission direction of the repeater accordingly.
At the same time the transmitter on the opposite
side is switched off, which means that no additional
control lines are required for reversing the direction.
In a 4-wire system the repeater transfers the
data independently of the transmission, thereby
guaranteeing a short transfer time and protocol
independence. No speed settings are required.
The LT-2G repeater corresponds to the LT-2, but
only supports the 2-wire RS485 at both interfaces.
Because of its high insulating voltage it may be used
between the interfaces in each RS485 network, e.g.
as galvanic segmentation.
The use of repeaters LT-2 and LT-2G improves
transfer characteristics such as range, and provides
galvanic insulation of the sub-sections of a connection.
A resistance can be installed at each interface
connection to terminate the end of a sub-section
(termination).
Up to 100,000 bits/s the information contents are
not altered by the short device running times, the
galvanic insulation of the sub-sections or codetransparent
amplification of the signals. The
transient protection in the LT-2/LT-2G provides
good protection against lightning and overvoltages.
The LT-2 and LT-2G repeaters are integrated in a
small, compact table-mounted casing, and have
their own power supply for 230V AC. The signal status
is displayed by means of LEDís (Power, TD, RD and
DCD) on the front panel, and all interface connections
are designed as 5-pin plugs with screw
terminals.
The LT-2 and LT-2G repeaters meet the most
stringent requirements regarding reliability,
operation and performance, and their simple
handling means that the devices can be installed
without problem.

|
| Maximum transfer distance 1200 metres at 0-100,000 bits/s. Use pair twisted, unscreened cables. The transfer characteristics deteriorate as the capacitance increases and the cable cross-section is reduced. Use screened cables in heavy interference environment but consider that higher capacitances reduce the transmission distance.

| Device running times
|
| The running times of the LT-2 are independent
of transfer speed and are
approximately 0.2 ms. The turn-a-round
time is a minimum of 45 ms, depending on
X16, X17 and X19.
|
| The running times of the LT-2G are
independent of transfer speed and are
approximately 20 ms.
