A PC database server designed
to manage information wherever, however,
and whenever you need it.

Announcing the new version of Watcom SQL for QNX...

Distributed by SWD© (Uwe Wannags Hard- + Software Distribution e.K., Germany)

SQL Anywhere for QNX is a powerful version of the leading workplace DBMS from Sybase®.

A small memory footprint coupled with full transaction processing and SQL capabilities make SQL Anywhere ideal for widespread deployment in desktop, workgroup, or mobile environments. It simplifies your database installation and maintenance, and reduces the time and costs traditionally associated with deploying client/server technology. Plus, its cost-based query optimizer learns as you use it, making data access smarter and faster.

Now you can scale seamlessly between the smallest workgroups and the largest enterprise networks. Move your databases from one environment to another without time-consuming and tedious loads and unloads. And Sybase SQL Anywhere supports remote sites through replication, allowing total data access throughout PC- and LAN-based organizations.

The Full Power of SQL

  • Industry-standard desktop SQL database

  • Triggers and stored procedures

  • Cascading updates and deletes

  • Dynamic multiple databases

  • Built-in referential and entity integrity

  • Conforms to ANSI SQL89 Level 2, IBM SAA standards and FIPS 127-2

  • Transact-SQL compatibility

  • SQL Extensions, including user defined functions, and more

SQL Anywhere for QNX lets users exploit high-powered desktop and mobile computers through true 32-bit implementation. And it is optimized to take advantage of Intel 486 and Pentium architecture, while providing compatibility with older 386 processors.

With SQL Anywhere for QNX, you can enforce business rules with triggers and stored procedures which will operate right on the server, improving your client/server performance. Maintenance efforts are also reduced as your business rules are defined in one central location - right in the database. Declarative referential integrity with cascading updates and deletes saves programmers time by eliminating redundant checks on data relationships and constraints within the application programming.

Easy to Configure and Administer

  • Windows 95 client software is Windows 95 certified

  • Basic configuration in minutes

  • Cost-based query optimizer

  • Simplified administration procedures minimize DBA involvement

SQL Anywhere for QNX comes with support for multiple platforms on a single CD - including Windows 95 and Windows NT - so basic configurations can be set up in minutes. Its simple administration procedures minimize system administrator involvement. In fact, the high-performance cost-based query optimizer learns on the fly, determining the most effective way for users to access information. It tunes each query individually, resulting in fewer disk accesses, less processing and eliminates the need for expert tuning.

To simplify your DBA activities, SQL Anywhere includes graphical tools in the SQL Central database administrator. SQL Central features powerful drag and drop operations for managing replication, creating tables, indexes, stored procedures and more! Plus, high performance wizards in SQL Central save you time by visually creating and guiding your SQL coding.

Cross-Platform Portability

  • Delivered with support for multiple platforms on a single CD

  • Heterogeneous support for Windows 95, Windows 3.x, Windows NT, OS/2, DOS, and NetWare

  • Move between platforms without modifications or DUMP/RESTOREs

SQL Anywhere offers heterogeneous support for Windows 95, Windows 3.x, Windows NT, OS/2, DOS, and NetWare. This simplifies administration, and provides easy migration from Windows to Window 95 to Windows NT without DBMS manipulation.

Regardless of the OS, SQL Anywhere database tables offer a single architecture and representation. This means your SQL Anywhere database can move to any supported platform immediately without modifications, exports, translations, or DUMP/RESTOREs.

Robust Recovery Architecture

  • Full transaction processing with automatic data recovery

  • Transaction log allows SQL command translation for ease in replication

SQL Anywhere ensures the consistency and integrity of your data by supporting full transaction processing with automatic data recovery and providing a checkpoint log, a forward transaction log, and a rollback log. You can translate the transaction log to ANSI SQL commands and apply it to any SQL database. This is especially important when deploying distributed or mobile applications, such as field force automation.

Desktop to Enterprise Scalability

  • Easy movement from single to multiuser versions

  • Interoperable with Sybase® SQL Server

  • Support for Sybase Open Client through Sybase Open Server (optional)

The architecture of SQL Anywhere simplifies scaling from single-user configuration to mass deployment in multiplatform, multiuser environments. It offers smooth, seamless expansion from one node to thousands. Database files can be copied and pasted between versions, allowing your workgroups to expand as needed without massive database restructuring.

In addition, SQL Anywhere is language-compatible with Sybase Transact-SQL®, offering a time-saving, common programming language for complete scalability between SQL Server and SQL Anywhere.

Replication with SQL Remote

  • SQL Remote facility offers easy message-based replication for occasionally connected users

  • Supports Sybase's replication server architecture, offering potential to replicate data to Sybase, Oracle and DB/2, via Replication Agent (available separately)

SQL Anywhere includes SQL Remote, a simple, straightforward asynchronous replication facility that uses standard message-based APIs to synchronize mobile remote users. Each message carries a destination address, so sites may exchange data without a direct connection.

SQL Remote is specially designed for installations in which a consolidated database contains data relevant to many remote sites or occasionally connected users.

In addition, Sybase SQL Anywhere is compatible with Sybase SQL Server, offering users the potential to access Sybase Replication Server architecture. By using Sybase's Open Server and the Replication Agent (available separately), users may replicate multiple, synchronized copies of the database to various back-ends including Sybase, Oracle and DB/2.

Simplified Development of High-Performance Applications

  • Simplified application development via bidirectional, scrolling, updateable cursors, and multimedia datatypes (e.g., BLOBs)

  • ODBC drivers support range of database tools

  • Supports DDE and DLL access to the database from a variety of application and programming environments

SQL Anywhere facilitates application development with bidirectional, scrolling, updateable cursors, and multimedia datatypes such as binary large objects. Plus it ensures a wide choice of front-end tools and lightning-fast performance through its highly efficient ODBC drivers. Native dynamic SQL and powerful cursor capabilities enable easy development of high-performance applications.

Desktop integration capabilities include dynamic data exchange (DDE) and dynamic link library (DLL) access from a variety of applications and programming environments.
