X.25 Gateway Brief - X.25 Software - Corman Technologies Inc.

X.25 Gateway for QNX 4

Introduction

CorLink X.25 is an X.25 protocol communications package developed by Corman Technologies Inc. With CorLink X.25 installation, configuration, and data transfer using the X.25 protocol is easy.

If, in your QNX environment, you need to support incoming and/or outgoing communications using the X.25 protocol; if you need to maintain a direct connection to another QNX network; if you need to communicate via the X.25 Public Data network; or if you have transaction processing applications that require X.25 communications, CorLink X.25 is a proven solution.

 Typical Applications for CorLink X.25

  • Network Connection
  • Remote Dial-in through a PAD
  • Database Access
  • Public Data Network Access
  • Remote Process Monitoring
  • Financial Transaction Processing

What is CorLink X.25?

The CorLink X.25 Gateway software consists of two main applications: HOST and ITI (Interactive Terminal Interface). With these two applications, you can connect to and communicate over X.25 networks worldwide. The applications allow you to share all available X.25 circuits as they are needed.

HOST

The CorLink X.25 HOST program allows remote users to log into your QNX Network through the standard device interface.

ITI

The CorLink X.25 ITI (Interactive Terminal Interface) program acts as a Packet Assembler/Disassembler (PAD) to allow you to make outgoing calls. Like HOST, this is also accomplished through the standard device interface.

If you need to develop a custom X.25 communications application, the CorLink X.25 API Toolkit allows you to build complete X.25 support into your QNX applications quickly and easily. Additional information for the CorLink X.25 API Toolkit is available from Corman Technologies Inc.

All CorLink X.25 applications depend on the ADMIN process to interface to the EiconCard.

Features and Benefits of CorLink X.25 V4.2

  • Both HOST and ITI have an idle timer which can be set to clear X.25 sessions that remain inactive for a specified amount of time.

This allows you to automatically recover virtual circuits assigned to connections that may have been terminated incorrectly, also minimizing connections costs.

  • ITI supports the 1988 CCITT international PAD parameters.

CorLink X.25's adherence to international standards ensures the highest degree of compatibility worldwide.

  • HOST detects alteration of its parameters and sends an appropriate 'set PAD parameter' message to the remote PAD. The parameters sent are usually the CCITT 1988 PAD parameters, but you can define alternate parameters for special applications.

This allows you to customize HOST for special networks or PADs.

  • HOST can be configured to initialize its tty settings to any specified values. Different tty setting can be specified for different callers.

This permits you to tailor the tty settings for callers from different sources.

  • CorLink X.25 features full communication tracing including collecting X.25 Packet Level and HDLC Link Level trace data. You can also use selective traces to collect data on only particular packet types (such as call cleared, call request, etc.)

The trace functions are useful in troubleshooting problems on your X.25 link.

  • The Control Panel (user interface) provides circuit status and clearing facilities.

This allows you to monitor communications and hang up any circuits mistakenly left active.

  • CorLink X.25 gathers X.25 statistics which you can review at any time. These statistics include the number of packets sent and received, number of incoming and outgoing calls, etc.

These X.25 statistics are helpful in analysing the traffic patterns on your X.25 link.

  • HOST and ITI provide accounting information in the etc/acclog file.

This allows you to maintain records of all incoming and outgoing X.25 calls automatically.

  • CorLink X.25 allows you to configure your EiconCard as either DCE or DTE.

This permits back-to-back connection of two systems which is often used during testing.

  • CorLink X.25 provides two levels of configuration -- Basic and Plus.

With the Basic configuration you can quickly set the most commonly changed parameters and get CorLink X.25 up and running fast. The Plus configuration provides access to all the X.25 parameters (such as link and packet level timers, extended window sizes, etc.).

  • The CorLink X.25 Control Panel is fully QNX network compatible.

You can control CorLink X.25 from any node on the network.

  • HOST and ITI do not have to run on the same network node where the EiconCard is installed. You can also use multiple HOST's and ITI's with a single EiconCard.

This allows you to use the resources of several computers to handle incoming and outgoing calls.

The CorLink X.25 Control Panelctlcpanel.gif (16767 bytes)

The CorLink X.25 Control Panel allows you to configure CorLink X.25 for your environment, start and stop the CorLink X.25 applications, and check on the status of the applications.

The Control Panel uses a full-screen, pull down menu interface.

Configuring the X.25 communciations card and CorLink X.25 software is made easy with the CorLink X.25 Control Panel, practical default values, and support documentation.

The CorLink X.25 software also can be operated from the command line, allowing you to use shell scripts to automate software start-up.
