Intellicon-NT960 Serial Adapters

Today's computer applications are becoming more complex and rigorous, requiring flexible system hardware and peripherals. The Intellicon-NT960, a RISC based intelligent multi-port I/O subsystem, meets this challenge by offering you one of the most flexible solutions for your serial I/O requirements . For good performance and flexibility, the Intellicon-NT960 is built around a 16 MHz Intel 80960 RISC processor, 512K to 2 MB of SRAM, 64K to 256K of Dual Ported RAM and 128K of FLASH EEPROM. These features substantially reduce serial I/O bottle-necks on the host CPU, resulting in enhanced performance for the total system.

High Speed Communications

Cirrus Logic CD1400 communication controllers, with 12 byte FIFO per port, offer data communications up to 115.2 Kbps per port.

Intelligent Communications Processor

The user can software select options such as Edit, Echo, I/O Flow Control, RS-485 line control and Character Translation to be processed on the Intellicon-NT960 Host Adapter. This improves the overall performance of the host system.

Expandability

For the most demanding multi-user/multi-channel applications, the Intellicon-NT960 Host Adapter and ACM/16, ACM/Flex-16, ACM/16 RJ(RJ-45 connectors) external modules offer a modular approach to port expansion. One Intellicon-NT960 Host Adapter can handle up to 128 ports.

Hardware Flexibility

For applications requiring more flexibility than what other multi-port serial products provide, the Intellicon-NT960 subsystem offers the following hardware features:

  • The Intellicon-NT960 subsystem requires only one 8K segment in the first megabyte of the memory address space.
  • Provides both 8 and 16 bit data transfers.
  • Supports both polled and interrupt modes.
  • The highly modular and lightweight design of the ACM/16, ACM/Flex-16, ACM/16RJ external modules allow you to easily integrate it into your application.
  • The ACM/Flex-16 features Serial Line Interface Modules ( SLIMs ) that provide different electrical interfaces such as RS-232, RS485/422 and 20mA current loop (passive) on the same ACM/Flex-16 module. As hardware requirements change within the application, you may field-upgrade the ACM/Flex-16 with the appropriate SLIM. Serial Line Interface Modules offer a highly flexible solution for a wide range of I/O requirements.

SoftwareCompatibility

The Intellicon-NT960 comes with device drivers for most popular operating systems such as SCO UNIX,  MS-DOS 5.0 or greater, QNX 4.2X, QNX 2.X, Linux (coming soon) and Windows NT 4.0. All device drivers are developed and maintained by our team of experienced software engineers.

Enhanced Features

  • Transparent print under Unix allows the concurrent operation of printers attached to terminals, while the terminal is in use. One port for both printer and terminal offers user a more cost effective print solution for their application.
  • Adjustable FIFO buffer thresholds and timeouts allow you to customise the NT960 performance to better meet your communication requirements.
  • Full support for 1/2 duplex ( 2 wire ) and full duplex ( 4 wire ) RS-485 communications.

Easy to Use

The Intellicon-NT960 subsystem comes with software device drivers, and a comprehensive installation manual. Software installation is customised to use the standard interface provided with the operating system. Easy to read jumpers and DIP switches allow you to select available Interrupt Request Lines, Memory Addresses and I/O Port Addresses for the Intellicon-NT960 subsystem. The ACM/Flex-16 provides easy to read LED's to indicate the type of SLIM installed on a port.
