The Comtrol InterChange VS 1000 / VS 1100 provides asynchronous COM ports at any point on a LAN.
You can now have access to serial ports at a distance limited only by the physical capabilities
of Ethernet.

Installation:
Installation is simple, first load the VSLink software connect up the
VS1000 to the LAN, reboot the system and the added COM ports are now
available. Installation in less than 20 minutes!
The VS1000 has 16 asynchronous RJ-45 serial ports. Further ports
can be added using the 16 port VS1100. Up to three VS1100 units can
be added to each VS1000 unit to give 64 ports per LAN connection.
Additional base units can be added to the LAN to provide redundancy
or further capacity. The VS1000 is controlled by Windows NT TM (maximum 256 ports)
or Novell Netware TM (maximum 128 ports) per server.
Comtrol’s InterChangeVS™ 1000/1100 offers exceptional price and performance, pa
rticularly at higher port densities. It avoids the expense and inflexibility of
a proprietary closed system, as it makes full use of the main operating system
to set up. No new operating system to learn, only a few simple instructions.

Typical Applications:
The InterChange VS1000 can be used in a wide variety of applications where a large
number of fast asynchronous serial ports are required. Outlined below are a few typical
applications, but, many more are possible.
CTI
Call management systems and call centres can use the VS1000 for data capture from
a wide range of communication devices including standard serial ports, modems, ISDN
TAs and X25 PADs. You can use the VS1000 to dial out from the switch to other devices
and avoid the eed to locate the switch near the PC.
Remote Access
You can set up an inexpensive remote access server and connect a range of modems
and/or ISDN terminal adapters to the VS1000. This then allows remote workers to
dial into the corporate LAN and allows dial out facilities for those on the LAN.
Security Systems
Entry control systems are often connected to the central server via RS232. You
can use the VS1000 to connect devices such as card swipes at a considerable
distance from the PC. The VS1000 can be hot swapped, ensuring rapid switching
to a back up system in the event of server failure.
CADCAM
for DNC machine tools can readily utilise the VS1000. You connect the central
PC holding the CADCAM code via an ethernet cable to a VS1000, which in turn connects
to the machine tools via RS232. This approach means that expensive ruggedised PC's
do not need to be situated on the factory floor.
Process Plant
In many environments space for complex cabling is limited. You can use a single
Ethernet cable to carry data for many high speed serial asynchronous RS232 ports.
This can be particularly useful in ship based systems, on oil and gas platforms
and in many process control environments.
EPOS
systems use the VS1000 to connect a range of till, barcode scanners, displays
and many other devices systems to a central PC.
