Description:
IPROFIBUS is a Multi-Master System and makes possible the mutual operation of several
automation, engineering or visualizing systems at a Bus. The Masters, also designated
as active devices, define the data traffic on the Bus. When in possession of the access
permission (Token), they can send data without external requests. The Slaves, designated
as passive devices, have no Bus access permission. They can only confirm received messages
or send messages when requested by a Master. Baud rates from 9.6 kBaud up to 12 MBaud
are supported. A maximum of 126 devices can be operated at the Bus. PROFIBUS also supports
Broadcast and Multicast communication.
PROFIBUS DP
Is the most commonly used profile. It is optimized for speed, efficiency and low connection
costs and tailored especially to the communication between automation systems and their
decentralized peripherals. The data exchange with the decentralized devices takes place
cyclically from a DP Master of Class 1 (DPM1). A DP Master Class 2 (DPM2) deals with
engineering, projects or operating devices. They are used for start-up and for
maintenance, for configuration and for diagnostics. By means of advanced DP functions
according to the DPV1 specification, acyclic write and read functions as well as alarms
between Master and Slaves can be transmitted. These data are addressed within the Slave
participant via slot number and index. This takes place parallel of the cyclic user
traffic of the Master Class 1.
PROFIBUS-FMS
Is designed for communication on the cell level, for instance between PLCs and PCs.
FMS offers 40 services for writing and reading variables, storage regions and the object
directory, starting and stopping programs, events management and management services.
The data exchange can take place cyclically or acyclically, connection-orientated or as
a Multicast or Broadcast.
All communication objects of an FMS device are entered into the Object Dictionary, OD.
It contains descriptions, structure and data type as well as the assignment between the
internal device addresses of the communication objects and the designation at the Bus
(Index/Name). FMS differentiates static communication objects such as simple variables,
fields, structures, storage regions and events. Additional dynamic communications objects
can be altered during operation.
PROFIBUS-PA
Uses the PROFIBUS-DP functions for transmitting data or the DPV1 services for parameterising
devices in the region of process automation. The physical transmission is carried out in
accordance with IEC 1158-2, which also makes possible a power supply to the devices via
the network.
